Trust in the Lord With All Your Heart: Faith Over Your Own Plan

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5–6

When your plan doesn't go your way

Every athlete knows the feeling. You mapped out the training block, hit every session, ate clean, slept well — and still the PR didn't come. Or worse, the injury did. The body didn't cooperate. The competition didn't go as planned.

Proverbs 3:5–6 wasn't written for people with perfect circumstances. It was written for people who want to trust God even when the path isn't clear. 'Lean not on your own understanding' is an invitation to stop white-knuckling every outcome and start surrendering the process to the Lord.

Submission is still discipline

Surrender isn't the opposite of discipline. In the gym, submission looks like showing up on the days you don't feel like it. It looks like adjusting the program when your coach tells you to. It looks like resting when your body needs recovery instead of grinding through another session.

The same posture applies to faith. 'In all your ways submit to him' means your training, your nutrition, your rest, your ambition — all of it belongs under God's direction. When you submit the process, you stop treating fitness like a god and start treating it like stewardship.

He will make your paths straight

The promise isn't that every set will feel easy. It's that God will direct the steps of the one who trusts him. Some seasons are for building. Some are for resting. Some are for learning patience you didn't ask for.

Train hard, but hold the outcome loosely. Trust the Lord with all your heart — including the part of your heart that wants to hit that goal, win that meet, or finally see the scale move. He is faithful to make your path straight, even when you can't see around the next bend.
